Vrat ka dhokla/व्रत का ढोकला

Vrat ka dhokla is a perfect dish for fasts but if all the ingredients are used in right proportion.It is for fasts because it is made of those ingredients which can be eaten in fasts e.g;sago and samak.Most of the dishes of fasts are fried but vrat ka dhokla is a steamed dish so easily digestible.It is specially made in navratre fasts.During fasts it can satisfy our cravings for tasty food.

Ingredients

For batter

Samak – 3/4 cup

Sago – 1/4 cup

Rock salt – as per taste

Grated ginger – 1 spoon

Chopped green chilly – 1/4 spoon

Lemon juice – 2 spoons

Curd – 1 cup

Baking soda – 1/2 spoon

For tempering

Oil – 1 spoon

cumin seeds – 1/2 spoon

Green chillies – 4

Sugar – 1 spoon

Water – 1/2 cup

Method

To make vrat ka dhokla,grind samak and sago

Take a mixing bowl.Pour all the ingredients of batter.Mix well.

Keep it for rest for 15 minutes.

Batter will become thick because samak and sago will absorb water.

Adjust its consistency by adding a little water.

Grease the steamer tray and pour the batter into it.

Steam for 20 minutes.

Unmould when cold.

For tempering,heat oil and add cumin seeds.Add green chillies when cumin seeds splutter.

Add sugar and a cup of water.

Cook till sugar dissolves.Tempering is ready.

Pour over dhokla.Sprinkle corinder leaves.

Vrat ka dhokla is ready to eat.
